Hello there. Transition Inishowen is hosting a regional Transition gathering and tree planting party on Sat December 5th. I have a press release here and will copy below. Can the whole thing go on the website or must we edit it?
Best wishes, Bev Doherty
TREE PLANTING PARTY IN INISHOWEN

Here’s a date for your diary: Saturday December 5th. This is Party Day with a tree planting to give you an appetite! Transition Inishowen is inviting people – individuals and families – living in all the Transition Initiative areas of the North West to plant scores of native hardwood trees and shrubs on land around the Fort Dunree Visitors’ Centre, which is about twenty minutes north of Buncrana on the shores of Lough Swilly, starting at 11am.
You are invited to bring wellies and a spade! Also bring with you your favourite pie, cake, salad or dessert to share with all the other folk who will be doing the same.

The Visitor’s Centre café will be the venue for the indoor party, which will include your songs, music, games, story-telling and maybe a dance – the bigger the crowd, the greater the craic! There will be information on the growing worldwide Transition Towns movement, and prizes for those arriving using a more sustainable form of transport. Finally if you have any ideas for a more sustainable less money-orientated Christmas, bring those along too.

Transition Initiatives such as those in Inishowen, Derry, Donegal and Omagh, are a grassroots community response to climate change, increasing demand on finite oil reserves, and the economic downturn. The groups support one another through creative discussions, showing films and learning or relearning self reliance skills such as growing and cooking your own food, foraging, baking your own bread, insulating your house, making your own baskets, reducing your carbon footprint and generally “living better with less”.

Many such workshops and events in Inishowen have been oversubscribed this year and the Transition group anticipates an enthusiastic crowd on the 5th December. The Transition movement is all about getting out and doing something positive, and that means not only working together but celebrating together too. They invite you to join them!

Thank you for my membership. hope maybe in the next couple months I could get a group of like minded people in Teagasc to form a group. In the mean time I must try and get involved with Kilkenny. They got coverage in RTE Morning Ireland to day Friday 13th on their developments with CATS. RTE said they may have them back when it is up and running. Kind regards Marie

Hi Les

That's a great idea, I followed your previous advice and give a welcome message to all the new members I approve, I did think we always had to approve groups, but the personal messages do generate good feelings all round.

Regarding getting the groups into different sections and differentiating them, I would really appreciate you showing us how to do this.

Les, I think we can work ahead on this in a transparent way, as the other admins will catch it when they see it.

Warm regards

Alex

Alex, Davie, Martin and Cathy. I've made a slight change to the process of creating a new group -- groups are now approved by one of us Admins before going live. The idea is to make sure we admins receive an alert when a new group is created, so we can give them a proper welcome, including some guidance about what their new group offers them. See the note that I will be using to greet each new group across the 240 ning sites I am working with. I'd suggest that we treat new groups as a wonderful opportunity to greet local communities, companies, like-minded organizations, universities, churches, etc.

A week ago I showed all of you a new treatment of ALL GROUPS at http://uscoloradolouisville.ning.com/groups -- I've been working a lot on this and am willing to show you how to differentiate various groups if you are interested. I'm psyched.

Let me know what you think, and whether or not you'd like to return to no alerts to admins.

SAMPLE:

Welcome {person's name} and {name of new group}. It's great to see {new groupp} here. {Personal comment about group if it is known to Admin.} Now that you've created this group you can add further information about the group in TEXTBOX. Any member can start discussions on DISCUSSION FORUM. And your members can make quick comments on the COMMENT WALL. In addition, all members of {new group} can send a message to the entire group -- your own private mailing list. You're welcome to INVITE MORE PEOPLE and get them talking -- among themselves and with our full membership. Let us know when you have questions.
