Transition Ireland and Northern Ireland

the network for communities building local resilience

Why NOW is the time for Transition in Ireland!

  • The concept of a National Energy Transition Plan was presented to NESC, the National and Economic Social Council, as the best way to ensure citizen engagement. This is a gift! More info here

  • The transition initiated, People’s Energy Charter, PEC, is calling for comprehensive public participation in energy policy and projects. More info here

  • Local government reform is upon us with the introduction of Public Participation Networks. More info here

  • The national Energy Green Paper is due to be presented for consultation in coming weeks. This is currently with government departments for their input before it is released.

  • The Aarhus convention has been ratified by Ireland, protecting the publics right to greater participation in decision making affecting their environment.

All of these circumstances provide the ideal opportunity for transition to have a massive impact on local community led development. Existing transition initiatives are perfectly placed to participate in the Community Action Plans - a vision for the future of the community.

What do you think?

and the recent IPCC report http://www.ipcc.ch/

This broadcast was sent to all members and contains a poll to arrange a meeting.

We are calling a national transition meeting and invite anyone who is interested in the transition to a lower carbon Ireland to get involved.

  • The IPCC 5th report is a wake up call
  • The Open Government Partnership process is well under way in Ireland
  • Local government reform is upon us with the introduction of Public Participation Networks. More info here with relevant pages being 21-25.

  • There is a massive awakening amongst the population that energy needs to be addressed and it needs public participation
The significant factor here is time. There is a convergence of conditions that are begging for a transition presence. The overarching condition is the awareness amongst the people of our energy situation, the need to act ourselves and more increasingly, a desire to know how. This transition presence needs to be strong and visible in the coming months.

Please complete the following poll, detailing 4 dates, so that we may select a date that suits most people. The venue will be in Dublin and will depend upon the date selected so further notice will be sent when that's sprted.

Our national meeting has been set for the morning of Saturday May 24th
