Event Description

Our economy is in freefall, jobs drying up, rising taxes, healthcare in crisis, confidence is low. On and on and on it goes. Our resilience is what has got us this far. We have a great capacity to cope and adapt.

What if we had been better prepared, not had all of our eggs in one basket? Knew the housing bubble would burst? Knew the global economy would slump? What practical steps could we have taken to make this challenge easier?

Ports Resilience Group invite you to take a look at what our known challenges are and set about doing something to make a comeback while building resilience. Resilience is a systems ability to withstand shock - it’s bouncebackability! We have set a date of Tuesday Feb 28th at 7.30pm.

We will watch a short DVD and then have a cuppa in a world cafe style brainstorming think tank. What we consider depends upon the participants. Some of the concerns people have is their communities resilience when it comes to healthcare, transport, recession, rising food and fuel prices.

This is an introduction to the Community Resilience course we will run in the coming months. On Feb 28th we will whittle the course down to the topics people would most like to explore and set about building resilience in. So come along on Tues at 7.30 to start the process of building a more resilient future.
